The short version: We collect only what we need to write your child's story and send it to you. We never sell your data. We never share your child's information with advertisers. We take children's privacy seriously.

Who We Are

StoryDrop is a subscription service that delivers personalized bedtime story chapters by email. We are the data controller for the information you provide when you sign up.

A Note About Children's Privacy (COPPA)

StoryDrop is a service for parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. The account is yours. You provide your child's name and interests on their behalf so we can personalize their stories.

We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The information you provide about your child (name, age, interests) is used solely to generate personalized story content and is never used for advertising, analytics profiling, or sold to third parties.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected information directly from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, please contact us immediately at hello@trystorydrop.com and we will delete it promptly.

What We Collect

When you sign up, we collect:

Your first name so we can address you personally in emails.
Your email address so we can deliver stories and send account-related messages.
Your child's first name so we can personalize the story.
Your child's age so we can match the story's reading level and themes.
Your child's interests (optional) so the adventure reflects what they love.

We do not collect your child's last name, school, location, photos, or any other identifying information.

Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.

How We Use It

To generate and deliver your child's personalized nightly story chapters.
To send account-related emails (confirmation, receipts, important service updates).
To improve the quality of our story generation over time (in aggregate, never individual profiles).

We do not send marketing emails to third parties on your behalf. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not use your child's data to train models in any way that identifies them personally.

Who We Share It With

We share your data only with the services required to operate StoryDrop:

Stripe for payment processing. They receive your email address and billing information.
Our email delivery provider for sending stories to your inbox. They process your email address.
Our hosting provider (Netlify) for serving the website. Standard web server logs apply.

All of our service providers are contractually required to protect your data and are prohibited from using it for their own purposes.

We will never sell, rent, or trade your personal information or your child's information to any third party. Ever.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your subscription is active. If you cancel, we retain your information for 90 days in case you want to reactivate, and then delete it. You can request immediate deletion at any time by emailing hello@trystorydrop.com.

Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct inaccurate data.
Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
Restrict how we process your data.
Data portability (receive your data in a structured format).
Object to processing.

Cookies

We use only the cookies necessary for the site to function (session management and Stripe integration). We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.

Security

We use HTTPS for all data transmission. We store passwords in hashed form and restrict access to personal data to only the staff who need it to operate the service. While no online service can guarantee perfect security, we take practical and proportionate steps to protect your information.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you by email before the changes take effect. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
